Electric Fireplaces—Providing the Ambience of a Fire without the Expense

One of the most sought after features in a home is a fireplace.  They add instant warmth and ambience to any style room.  However, it can be difficult to find homes with a fireplace if you live in a high rise apartment or a small tract home, for example.  But do not worry.  With today’s free standing models it is now possible to add an electric fireplace to any room in your home without the hassle and expense of major construction.

But how do electric fireplaces work?  To install you simply plug it into any standard 120v outlet in your home.  You can choose to use the electric fireplace inserts that are available or burn gel fuel if it is a gel fireplace.

An electric fireplace heating unit can be turned on or off allowing you to monitor the amount of electricity used, thereby controlling your electrical expense.  These fireplaces require no venting and meet all current indoor air quality requirements.

Wall Mount Electric FireplaceElectric fireplaces are available in many styles from the modern wall mount electric fireplace units to the very ornate Classic Flame Electric Fireplaces.

White Electric FireplaceMany older homes from the Craftsman period have lovely wood trim and moldings throughout the house.  A fireplace such as the Caprice white electric fireplace free standing unit offered by Dimplex will fit in perfectly with all the wood trim in your home.

Oak Electric FireplaceThe Devon Oak Electric Fireplace free standing unit with the built in bookshelves is perfect for a home office or den.  The combination of books and a fire invite you to sit down with a cup of coffee or a loved one and enjoy the ambience.  This unit would also work in a bedroom.   Who doesn’t like to curl up in front of a fire with a good book?

Perhaps you are one of the lucky ones who own a vacation home near the lake or at a ski resort.  Adding a fireplace that resembles a wood burning stove would create the perfect focal point in your home.

Gel Fuel FireplaceSmaller homes often have few walls that are not interrupted by a window or door.  This makes it difficult to find a spot for a fireplace.  Corner units are the perfect solution.  They are available in many styles and finishes such as the Edinburgh gel fuel fireplace by Classic Flame.  The subtle moldings and carvings would complement any interior.

Corner Gel Fuel FireplaceThe impressive Classic Flame Phoenix Corner Electric Fireplace will certainly add style and warmth to any room.

Contemporary or modern interiors are not left out.  You can still enjoy the beauty of a fire through a wall hung unit that takes up no floor space and can be placed in any room.  Consider placing one in your dining room or master bath for that extra touch.  There are several to choose from by visiting MoreFirePlaces.com

Next time the weatherman tells you a storm is coming, order your fireplace, plug it in when it arrives and you are ready to settle in for the winter or even a romantic evening.

  1. I have often thought about getting an electric fireplace for the cold desert winters. (No joke.) I also so miss having a place to hang the stocking at Christmas. These were some nice options.

My condo is in a home built in 1910. It is screaming for a fireplace. I am thinking of buying one of the gel fueled ones. They look very nice.

    Great post!

Nicolette, I just moved into a new home. The living room is long and is anchored with a focus wall with cozy window cubbys and built ins on either side of the fireplace. The problem is that the fireplace is a newer gas fireplace, very basic style, black metal casing, and the space right around the insert is grey marble. Blah. Our furniture is definitely “warm”, maroons, gold and beiges…the carpet is a shade of olive green. The house was built in 1940 and has a very “classic” feel. The fireplace just doesn’t fit. What can I do with out spending a lot of money? Any ideas?
    Many thanks, Heather
