Living Green – In Your Living Room

Natural, organic, sustainable, and recycled – that’s what makes a product environmentally friendly so you can be "living green"! If you think it’s time to update your living room into an eco-friendly space, you’ve got a lot of options to choose from. Since most major companies are now manufacturing “green” products, the design opportunities are endless! I’ve selected a few key living room pieces that are not only better for the environment – they’re stylish too!

Lifestyle Solutions Sofa SetThe extremely versatile Lifestyle Solutions Casual Convertibles Meridian 3 Piece Convertible Set comes with a microfiber convertible sofa, armchair, and padded ottoman. Lifestyles Solutions is a well-known eco-friendly brand, since they only construct their furniture from sustainable, plantation-grown hardwood. They also carry a certified compliance from the International Tropical Timber Organization – an association dedicated to preserving tropical forest resources.

Organic RugMade from hand woven organic wool on a natural cotton foundation, the Calvin Klein Home by Nourison Organic Weave Pulse Area Rug Collection has been tinted a warm chocolate brown using vegetable dye. Since vegetable dye is free of chemicals, it doesn’t release any toxins into the air, keeping our environment clean.

Wood RugThe unique Vifah Hardwood Indoor Rug is an alternative to a fabric rug, in case that’s not your style. It’s been constructed of premium teak wood, which is naturally resistant to rot, decay, mold, or mildew. Vifah has harvested this particular teak wood from special protected forests to prevent the harvesting of precious resource forests.

Modern ArmchairThe chocolate Nfusion Victoria Brown Upholstered Modern Armchair is upholstered in cozy microfiber, and features environmentally friendly cushioning that’s free of CFCs. What exactly are CFCs? It stands for Chlorofluorocarbons, and the main problem with them is the presence of chlorine in their compound. When items are created with CFCs, they may give off chlorine fumes that destroy the Earth’s vulnerable ozone layer.

CD HolderMade from recycled iron, the Pangaea Black Olympus CD Holder is a funky way to hold and stack your CDs. Pangaea features a whole selection of different furniture and décor pieces that are all made from recycled iron – which is an ideal eco-friendly material!

Maple TV StandThe Nexera Colori Storage Unit Maple TV Stand can be used as a storage space, bookshelf, or even a TV stand – it’s all up to you! Its unique two-toned colour combo will make it a standout piece in the living room. Nexera features products that are made from recycled MDF or particle board, which is old, unwanted wood that has been fused together. It’s a great way to reuse discarded material.

Linon Round MirrorThe decorative Linon Water Hyacinth Round Wall Mirror has been woven with sustainable hyacinth fibers, which falls into the bamboo and rattan category for fast growth and high strength. It has a basic, modern look that will be a superb accent piece in your living room.

Organic CandlesFor a Zen-like experience in your living room, add the collection of Zodax Organic Fusion Scented Votive Candles on Bamboo Tray. Choose between the ivory vanilla or the kiwi lime green candles, which are nestled inside a sustainable bamboo holder and settled on a tray of the same material. Bamboo is quickly becoming the go-to material when it comes to furniture and décor pieces. Not only is it strong, but it grows extremely fast, making it a resourceful plant.
