Mediterranean Decorating More Ideas

Influenced by the beaches and countryside of Spain, Greece, and Italy, Mediterranean decorating style is all about warm colors, rich textures, and nature-infused home décor.

With a Mediterranean interior design style, your home instantly becomes a work of art. This style also borrows from Moroccan influences, including wrought iron metalwork, dark wood stains, and mosaic tiling.

When it comes to Mediterranean wall colours, they represent the landscape, and even the products of the land itself. Reds, browns, greens, blues, and yellows represent Mediterranean style.

Your furnishings and your paints colours do not necessarily have to match – they just need to flow well together. Based on the following paint samples from www.benjaminmoore.com, find a wall colour that suits your personal taste, and the furniture pieces that tie in with the Mediterranean fashion.

Terra Cotta

If you want to furnish a room that’s been painted terra cotta, since it’s more of a neutral shade, you can choose pieces that are bold in color and texture. Experiment with shades of green, black, and white.

Mediterranean Style Decorating

It is easy to understand why Mediterranean Interior Design style is so popular.  The light colored upholstered furniture, colors of the sea and sky and handcrafted details found in mosaic tile and wrought iron all combine to create a very comfortable and relaxed space.  This style borrows design elements from Spain, Italy and Greece with just a bit of Moroccan influence.

Metal accents are popular in Mediterranean Interior Design.  This can be found in the form of wrought iron table bases and fireplace screens, burnished metal accents on furniture, wall sconces and lamps.  Heavy, dark wood is the choice for tables and furniture legs. Upholstered pieces are comfortable and light in color.

Wrought Iron BedA bedroom decorated in mediterranean interior design style offers a relaxing haven from the hectic day.  Begin with the Bonaire metal 4 poster bed by Hillsdale.  The elaborately swirled metal is the perfect accent to the dark wooden posts.

The key to this decorating in Mediterranean Design style is to have furniture complement each other but not match.  Choose a chest as a night stand on one side with a mismatched table on the other.  Your chest and dressers should be dark in color and somewhat rustic in design.  Add brightly colored pillows to top off crisp white linens and you have created the perfect spot for an afternoon nap.

Rolled Arm SofaFor your living room choose a comfortable rolled arm sofa like the Megan sofa upholstered in crisp white.  Throw on lots of textural pillows in bright colors.

Cocktail TableAnd, although The Santa Barbara cocktail table by Stanley is finished in a lighter birch it is a nice choice for a coffee table

Mosaic TableMosaic tile accents play a large part in Mediterranean Interior design.  Using the 20 inch mosaic side table by Alfresco creates that collected look so important to this design.  The wrought iron base and sandy colored tiles are perfect.

Mosaic Plant StandEven the small blue mosaic plant stand by Alfresco Home could act as an accent table in the room.  The bright blue is the perfect accent next to your white sofa and wrought iron accessories.

Wall SconceLighting is important in any design especially wall sconces for your Mediterranean décor.  Flanking a fireplace with the Alexandria Wall sconce by Murray Feiss would be the perfect accessory.

Tuscan Wall Light BracketThe Tuscan Villa Wall Light Bracket, also by Murray Feiss would add a subtle touch to any room.

Wall Light BracketIn choosing the Segovia Wall Bracket you have added a bit of Greek influence so often found in Mediterranean design.

The key to creating a Mediterranean Interior Design inspired rooms is to keep your furnishings simple and functional.  Don’t overcrowd a room with too many pieces of furniture or accessories.

Try to create a collected look by displaying wonderful tapestries you may have picked up on your travels.  Place large pottery pieces on the floor or have pillows made from fabrics found in the markets of Morocco.  That is all it takes to design a relaxing and inviting space for your family and friends.

Love to see what you come up with!
